Program Notes:

Latido is the Spanish word for “heartbeat”. The work was inspired by the rhythmic heart beat of salsa music, the clave. There are four short and distinct sections where the clave serves as the rhythmic engine for each one. The essence of the clave rhythm is refracted through the emotional states described by each short movement; it also reflects the varying emotional high and low conditions of the heart and being alive.
