Tango for String Quintet, Desafiante (2014)

Instrumentation: String Quintet (2 violins, viola, cello, and double bass)
Duration:
~6:00
Revised for Spectrum Chamber Music Society
Performed on November 8, 2021

Program Notes:

Desafiante means “Defiant” in Spanish. This piece tries to capture a defiance to melancholy with its interplay–dance, if you will–between slow, melancholic sections and faster, upbeat sections. The piece is done in the style of the Tango, where the slower sections feature a Milonga type of feel.
